Blog Post #4 - Prayer
(Tracy , Brian, director. The Four A's for Expressing Gratitude . Youtube , Youtube, 22 Nov. 2016, www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLMbaNG3G3Q.)
This video talks about 4 ways to be thankful and how it won't only impact your life but the people around you as well. I choose this multimedia presentation because it teaches people why and how you should be thankful for everything in your life. It goes along with the theme of this unit of prayer and giving thanks to God for all he does.
1. I have a very good understanding about what prayer is but during this unit I learned new things that I haven’t before learned about in all my years at a catholic school. I learned that they’re many different types of ways to pray and each type of prayer has a unique requirement that you do. For example, when you're reading a bible passage in a group, you have to re-read the bible passage with you group over and over again until you and the people you're with have a very good understand of the message God wants to share with us. Also hearing what others think about the passage you read can open your eyes to new ways to interpret the passage and it’s meanings. I also learned that you can’t ask God to give you material things. You can’t ask him for new shoes because you want new shoes. You have to ask him for things you need that will benefit you and the people around you.
2.I’ve always been interested in starting to say a prayer before dinner but It constantly escapes my mind right when I start eating and I don’t remember until after. I usually always say a prayer before I start a soccer game and ask God to take care of my teammates, that nobody gets injured, and to guide me in playing the best I can play. I think that I can quickly tell God about what I’m thankful for before I start my along with everything else I pray for instead of praying before dinner. I feel that since I constantly am playing I’ll be constantly thanking God for all the good in my life. This way I know God’s knows i'm thankful for the big and the small things in my life. Even though this isn’t a very traditional way of praying.
3. I got two main messages from the movie “The Case for Christ” . The first one is that you have to accept what makes someone you love happy regardless if it doesn’t make you happy. If you really love someone you love everything that that person loves because that means you accept everything about the person you love and they know you won't judge you for it. I also learned that you should always have faith in Christ. When you're having doubts about something, or even you belief in God, have faith. God will be there even in your darkest times when you feel the most alone, just have faith in God.
4. I learned the most during the gratitude class because I learned of the many different ways to my gratitude for everything I’m grateful for. You can make a list in your head about all the things you appreciate. Or you could even write them down and keep the list and tape it somewhere where you can look at it so you're reminded on what you're grateful for. I also learned to be grateful for the little things in my life. I should just appreciate the hugs my grandmas give me or even the blankets I have on my bed that many people in world don’t have. You should already be grateful for the big things in your life but at some point you need to wake up and be grateful for the little things that might not be there later.
