Blog Post #12 - Church in the Present

Image
“Pope Francis Washes Feet of Refugees on Holy Thursday.” CatholicHerald.co.uk , 24 Mar. 2016, catholicherald.co.uk/news/2016/03/24/pope-francis-washes-feet-of-refugees-on-holy-thursday/. I choose a picture of Pope Francis washing and kissing a lady’s feet because I think it’s an amazing representation of what he’s all about.  Pope Francis stresses the importance of loving your neighbor as you love yourself and he shows us ways in which we can do that everyday. We don’t have to do such big tasks like washing and kissing feet as Jesus did on the Last Supper but we can start by doing small things to make our community as better place. One of the main points in “What Makes Us Catholic” by Thomas Groome is that all denominations of christianity should unite as one. Instead of bringing enemies with one another we should learn about everyone's beliefs and unite under one house. I also agree with the fact that God loves everyone regardless of their gender, nationality, heigh...

Blog Post # 11 - Bridge to Present

Image
I chose this picture of me and some of the Notre Dame varsity soccer players at a Cal Berkeley game with Cal player and Notre Dame alum, Luca Deza,  because it's an example of how even after graduation you will still always be supported and a part of the Notre Dame. You never truly leave NDB when you graduate. This picture is just proof that you will always be supported and rooted for in whatever your doing life. Notre Dame is home to everyone who steps through the school doors.   To me the most interesting part of the history of the Sisters of Notre Dame was all the traveling they did to places all over the world. I personally would never be able to uproot my life and move to a foreign land so far from home. It just shows how much courage and faith in God they have that gives them strength to do these incredible things all over the world. They travelled from their homes in Europe to places like Kenya, South Sudan and even Californ...

Blog Post #9 - Marian Apparitions

Image
I chose this picture of people getting water from Lourdes because you can see how many people line up to get a chance to take some of the Holy Water that Mary blessed. The water gives hope to thousands of people affected with life threatening diseases. It is so amazing how this water can cure people with horrible diseases and it can't be explained by science.  1. The letter writers were people who wrote letters to gentiles and jews with the intention of converting them to christianity. They would write about how God is always with us and that he sent his only son to die for our salvation. They wanted these groups of people to have faith in God and to spread his message of love so that they could live with him in heaven for eternity after they pass away on Earth. Personally I feel like I could also share messages with other people like the letter writers did but the only difference would be the message I’m spreading. I would tell people that we need to stop intentionally t...

Blog Post #7 - Discipleship

Image
continuedon.wordpress.com I chose this multimedia picture because I reminds me of how Jesus sacrificed himself so that we may be free from sin. The disciples play a major role in this picture of the last supper because this is the time in which Jesus tells them that He will be crucified and they must continue to spread the word of God to the gentiles.  I have grown up learning about the 13 disciples since kindergarten but I definitely learned a lot more about them during this unit. I learned that each one of the 13 disciples plays a major role in the development of the Catholic Church. After Jesus's resurrection and ascension into heaven, the disciples set out one by one traveling far and wide preaching to people about God's word and the lessons Jesus had taught them. The 13 disciples are the reason why the catholic faith is the most popular religion in the entire world. They taught people to see the world how Jesus saw it, how to live like him, and that by doing g...

Blog Post #6 - Beatitudes

Chamblee, Jess, director.  The Beatitudes Song  .  Youtube  , 24 June 2014, www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yxs5wFpnGg. This is the beatitude song. It is a beatiful song that makes you feel happy and want to do good. Maybe listening to this song once and while you can remember to apply the beatitudes to your life.  I’ve been learning about the beatitudes since I was in kindergarten but during this unit with Mrs. Manalo I learned that although the beatitudes and 10 commandements seem the same since they kind of act as rules for catholics to live by, the are different. The 10 commandments are 10 things you should basically never do like don't kill people or living things and don't steal. Except for the two honor your father and mother and go to church on sundays. Those are the only things you should do. The beatitudes on the other hand are 8 guidelines to apply to your daily life. Before this unit I just thought they were rules but when Mrs. Manalo taugh...

Blog Post #5 - Parables

Image
The multimedia that I chose for this blog post is a video of the Parable of the Prodigal Son. This was the parable that I researched and presented and I wanted to find a video that showed a little bit about what the parable was about. Visual representation helps people better understand messages that are being taught. 1.While researching The Prodigal Son I learned new information that I hadn’t learned before. I went to a catholic school and was read this parable at least once a year and was taught about why this parable is so important. Its meaning is teach people that when you make a mistake it’s ok to ask for forgiveness and when or if you do receive it don’t take advantage of it. While researching background information I learned that the parable was written by Luke around 85 c.e. I love this parable because it always reminds me that even if I don’t want to forgive someone for something they’ve done, for my sake and there sake it's better if I don’t hold a grudge and acce...

Blog Post #4 - Prayer

Image
(Tracy , Brian, director.  The Four A's for Expressing Gratitude  .  Youtube  , Youtube, 22 Nov. 2016, www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLMbaNG3G3Q.) This video talks about 4 ways to be thankful and how it won't only impact your life but the people around you as well.  I choose this multimedia presentation because it teaches people why and how you should be thankful for everything in your life. It goes along with the theme of this unit of prayer and giving thanks to God for all he does.  1. I have a very good understanding about what prayer is but during this unit I learned new things that I haven’t before learned about in all my years at a catholic school. I learned that they’re many different types of ways to pray and each type of prayer has a unique requirement that you do. For example, when you're reading a bible passage in a group, you have to re-read the bible passage with you group over and over again until you and the people you're with have a v...
