Blog Post #6 - Beatitudes

This is the beatitude song. It is a beatiful song that makes you feel happy and want to do good. Maybe listening to this song once and while you can remember to apply the beatitudes to your life.

I’ve been learning about the beatitudes since I was in kindergarten but during this unit with Mrs. Manalo I learned that although the beatitudes and 10 commandements seem the same since they kind of act as rules for catholics to live by, the are different. The 10 commandments are 10 things you should basically never do like don't kill people or living things and don't steal. Except for the two honor your father and mother and go to church on sundays. Those are the only things you should do. The beatitudes on the other hand are 8 guidelines to apply to your daily life. Before this unit I just thought they were rules but when Mrs. Manalo taught me, she taught that they are guidelines to apply to your everyday life.

I feel that all of the beatitudes resonate with me but the one that does the most is “Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” . For a while I went through a hard time in my life and I didn’t see a way out. I accepted that I would live a hard life until I was 18 and could get out and be on my own and start a new life. But things changed when I didn’t believe they would and now I’ve never been happy. I don’t need to think of ways to leave when I’m 18 anymore instead I can be happy right where I am. I went through things for seven years and only two people outside my family in this world know. And only one of them is the reason why I finally believe my life is perfect and I owe that person the world. I was poor in spirit but believe it or not I prayed to God and things got better and now 2017 has been the best year of my life.

I basically have an understanding of what I believe the 8 beatitudes are but durring the speed dating I realized that everyone resonates with each beatitude in a different way. Everyone has their own experience that they relate to with each of the beatitudes. Some people saw the “blessed are the meek” one in one way through maybe a time where they were humble. And others related that one to a time when they saw someone else living that beatitude. I also realized that some people felt really passionate about the activity and others not as much. I think the people that felt passionate about it definitely experienced a beatitude. The ones that weren’t as into it probably just haven’t really experienced a beatitude in there own life.

I personally believe the best way to live the beatitudes is to get a calendar and write a beatitude for each day of the month that you will try and apply to your life that way. This way I and others can stay organized and live out a beatitude each day. Eventually you won’t need the calendar because you will be so used to living the beatitudes that it becomes second nature. In order for that to happen though you need extreme dedication. I want to have that much dedication towards doing this. I know I can do it since I have a huge dedication towards soccer I can also have a dedication towards doing this.
