Blog Post #7 - Discipleship

I chose this multimedia picture because I reminds me of how Jesus sacrificed himself so that we may be free from sin. The disciples play a major role in this picture of the last supper because this is the time in which Jesus tells them that He will be crucified and they must continue to spread the word of God to the gentiles.
I have grown up learning about the 13 disciples since kindergarten but I definitely learned a lot more about them during this unit. I learned that each one of the 13 disciples plays a major role in the development of the Catholic Church. After Jesus's resurrection and ascension into heaven, the disciples set out one by one traveling far and wide preaching to people about God's word and the lessons Jesus had taught them. The 13 disciples are the reason why the catholic faith is the most popular religion in the entire world. They taught people to see the world how Jesus saw it, how to live like him, and that by doing good in the world you will have a spot in heaven with God and all of the other disciples. The 13 disciples inspired hope in those who felt hopeless by telling them that God will always be in there hearts and to pray to him when you need him most.
The most interesting disciple I learned about was St. Matthew. I think St. Matt is a really great example of how you can change your bad ways to become a inspirational follower of Jesus. St. Matt was originally a tax collector who would steal from the people who would give him their taxes. But one day Jesus spoke to St. Matt about how what he was doing to the people was wrong and to leave his tax collecting days behind follow him and learn about the ways of God. St. Matt later on became one of the four evangelists who wrote the gospels. He is also an example of how God forgives those who sin and learn from their mistakes to become a better person. He inspires me to do the same when I sin and know that what I did was wrong and I should change my bad ways as well.
Each one of the disciples show a unique characteristic about a person who follows Christ. One they all have in common is the desire to make the world a better place. Whether its giving hope to those in despair, preaching about Jesus's miracles, or helping mend peoples broken hearts. For example, St Jude gave hope to people under persecution that God is with them and will be there to guide them through there hard time. St. Matt's way of making the world a better place was by writing down all that Jesus taught him and about all of his miracles so that others may learn about Jesus's saving work on Earth. By having the desire to make the world a better place you not only benefit yourself but with all the people around you as well.
I admit that I don't always remember to have the desire of making the world a better place. I get caught up in social media, school work, friends. and especially soccer which is why I sometimes forget to be the cause of making the world a better place. But when I am aware and actually think about it I start to make the world a better place by doing simple tasks that make a bug impact. By holding the door open for someone or smiling at someone who doesn't seem happy I know my small deeds are just the beginning of creating a better world. I know when I'm having a bad day that when someone does something kind to me I feel a lot better. It can seem like an impossible task to model your life after the disciples but by doing little things for other people you become more and more like a disciple of Christ.
