Blog Post #5 - Parables

The multimedia that I chose for this blog post is a video of the Parable of the Prodigal Son. This was the parable that I researched and presented and I wanted to find a video that showed a little bit about what the parable was about. Visual representation helps people better understand messages that are being taught.

1.While researching The Prodigal Son I learned new information that I hadn’t learned before. I went to a catholic school and was read this parable at least once a year and was taught about why this parable is so important. Its meaning is teach people that when you make a mistake it’s ok to ask for forgiveness and when or if you do receive it don’t take advantage of it. While researching background information I learned that the parable was written by Luke around 85 c.e. I love this parable because it always reminds me that even if I don’t want to forgive someone for something they’ve done, for my sake and there sake it's better if I don’t hold a grudge and accept their plea for forgiveness. In the end it will lift a weight off of both of our shoulders so that we can continue to grow our relationship.

2. I learned in the story of Parable of the Sower that there’s three different kinds of people that take God’s message differently. One type of people is the ones who hear God’s message but decide to do nothing with his message and not apply it to their life. The other kind of people are the ones who hear the message and try to use God’s message but fall short because they aren’t concentrated and motivated enough to actually use God’s teachings to better their life. And lastly, the third kind of people are the ones who hear, understand, and use God’s teaching in their everyday life. When you get the opportunity to hear God’s message you must take it and apply it to your life because in the end you’ll make your connection with not only God stronger but also with the people you love. Being lazy doesn’t help anyone and It’s so easy to use God’s teaching and put them into everything you do but the only way to do that is to start right now.

3. I think the moral that impacted me the most was the parable of The Sower. I often find myself wanting to go through with something but never really wanting to finish it due to me being lazy or unmotivated. When I can’t motivate myself I know that in whatever i’m trying to accomplish or do my best in I can’t do it cause I don’t have the right mindset. For example if I don’t have the motivation to play to the best of my abilities in a soccer game I end up playing really bad and get stuck in a funk that I can’t get out of. But when I learned about the Parable of the Sower I learned that there are three kinds of people and I want to be the kind of person that applies God’s teaching I learned into my everyday life. When I can learn how to do that I can then learn to be self motivated to perform tasks to the best of my abilities.

4. To be completely honest I have no idea what our society would be like if Jesus was here today preaching God’s word. I think there would be a lot of controversy over his teachings for people that don’t believe that he is the son of God. Today people are so passionate about what they believe in that They will fight and protest until they can’t anymore. Or it could be the complete opposite and everybody will come together in harmony and love and help one another to make Earth a better place. But I know that there would definitely be something that went majorly wrong. Nowadays you might see someone doing an act of kindness that goes viral but then something horrible happens like terrorist attacks or natural disaster that people pay more attention to. So if Jesus were to walk among us I feel that something bad would happen to ruin it.
