Blog Post # 11 - Bridge to Present
I chose this picture of me and some of the Notre Dame varsity soccer players at a Cal Berkeley game with Cal player and Notre Dame alum, Luca Deza, because it's an example of how even after graduation you will still always be supported and a part of the Notre Dame. You never truly leave NDB when you graduate. This picture is just proof that you will always be supported and rooted for in whatever your doing life. Notre Dame is home to everyone who steps through the school doors.
To me the most interesting part of the history of the Sisters of Notre Dame was all the traveling they did to places all over the world. I personally would never be able to uproot my life and move to a foreign land so far from home. It just shows how much courage and faith in God they have that gives them strength to do these incredible things all over the world. They travelled from their homes in Europe to places like Kenya, South Sudan and even California. What I also thought was interesting was how the Sisters evolved from only spreading the catholic faith to becoming teachers and educating less fortunate children with a formal school education. I think they realized how important it was to have a good education and children who were less fortunate and unable to attend a good school needed to get an education somehow and the sisters stepped up and took on that role.
What really stuck out to me while listening to the panel of Alums was how evolved sports at NDB have become. Notre Dame went from having two sports teams, volleyball and basketball, to having fourteen accomplished sports teams. Notre Dame is a powerhouse filled with very talented athletes. What also stuck out to me while listening to the panel of Alums was how even back in the 1950’s NDB was known for having extreme school spirit. To this day when you walk through the halls of Notre Dame you're engulfed in a wave of girls who are passionate about the sisterhood and unconditional love you experience at Notre Dame everyday. It is a huge factor people take into consideration when choosing on whether or not to go to NDB.
To be apart of the Notre Dame community is to be apart of a community in which you are able to express yourself artistically, academically, and athletically as well as create lifelong friendships with the people you meet at NDB. When you become apart of the Notre Dame community you are instilled with the responsibility of being a representation of what Notre Dame is all about. When you think of NDB you immediately think about the strong sisterhood between all the students, empowered young women, loving and accepting girls, and how spirited the school can be. Once you become a member of the Notre Dame community you become a part of something much larger than yourself, you become a part of a sisterhood for life. Notre Dame will always be your home even after you’ve grown up and graduated college and have a family; the girls of Notre Dame will welcome you back with open arms.
Hard work, dedication, and the importance of sisterhood are some of the many values that will stay with me even after graduation as I go through life. Notre Dame has prepared me to be a hardworking member of society and put my best foot forward in everything I do. In order to make it in the real world you must have the determination and dedication to be successful in life. Notre Dame prepared me to be determined in order to meet my goals in life. Sometimes you will slip and fall and it’ll feel impossible to be able to get back up again. You will feel helpless, scared, and confused but there will always be a person from NDB who you created a life long friendship with who will be there to pick you up and help you succeed again.
